Postcards, leaflets, flyers, pamphlets, posters, brochures, booklets – there’s 30+ years’ worth of Pokémon history contained in everyday print media. On this page, we archive and preserve volatile Pokémon paper.

PokéCenter New York Promotional Postcards, 2001-2005

Throughout its short but illustrious life, the Pokémon Center New York routinely printed and gave out – even mailed out – promotional postcards to help publicise one event or another. In a web’s first, we document and preserve these postcards here.

Japanese

Many of these full scans languished on old Japanese microblogging platforms. Due to the propensity of such services to shut down and unceremoniously take their content with them, we’ve elected to preserve what’s still out there, compress it into booklet form where expedient, and reproduce it.¹

PokéCenter Japan Store(front) Posters

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Japan’s dozen or so PokeCenters (PCs) left nothing to chance when it came to advertising. Through colourful posters put up in storefront windows and against interior walls, PokeCenters sought to alert fans to upcoming events, campaigns and merchandise and entice them to buy, buy, buy.² Below is a collection of such advertisements by PCs (all bearing the stores’ logo) as well as select other shops and department stores. It roughly spans the period 2008-2017.

Our near-exclusive source for these materials is the weblog of asami. From late 2013 onwards, fewer traditional posters appear on asami’s blog, with pictures of in-store banners, smaller pop advertisements and technical announcements partially taking their place.³ Rather than ignoring these entirely, I’ve chosen to include a selection of PokeCenter service notices and small adverts for non-national mini-campaigns so as to give insight into a branch’s week-to-week operations.⁴
